Happy Veterans Day! (contest)

Today, we honor those who have gone before us and served their country. Today, my dear friends, is Veterans Day. Most of you know that I served in the U SNavy for 6 years (from 2002 – 2008) and that Twin is currently serving in the US Army as a Combat Medic and is now stationed in Georgia (which is the first time he’s been stateside since he enlisted 5 years ago). Both of my grandfathers were in the Army and a few uncles were Army and Air Force. I’m the only female in the family who enlisted, and I’m the only Navy.

Veterans Day the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.)

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”  – President Woodrow Wilson

To celebrate Veterans Day, I’m holding a contest. The prize pack includes books written by 4 of my fellow sisters in arms (to learn more about the books, click on the cover).

Larissa Ione served in the Air Force, Diana Cosby served in the Navy, P.C. Cast served in the Air Force, and Teresa D’Amario served in the Air Force. They are all members of RomVets – a wonderful group of women who have served in the military at some point in their lives and now write romance. Not all of the ladies of RomVets are published, but they are all fabulous and amazing women.

The Rules:

  1. You must be a follower of the blog.
  2. You must leave a comment on this entry answering the question:What do you want to say to a Veteran today?
  3. You must contact me either by email (mamakitty@mamakittyreviews.com) or on Twitter (@mamakitty729) within 3 days (72 hours) of the announcement of the winner. If you do not contact me, I will draw another winner.
  4. The contest runs beginning today, Veterans Day, and ends on Sunday November 14, 2010 at 10pm CST. The winner will be announced Monday November 15, 2010.

Mama Kitty

I am a filthy-mouthed 29-year-old full time mommy/wife/student, bookaholic, Twitter addict, & self-described tomboy-princess. I am never without at least one book (I usually have two... sometimes more), and I will be happy to tell you ALL about whichever book(s) I happen to be reading at the moment. :)

Thank you to all the men and woman who serve our country by keeping us safe. My hats off to you. Special thanks to one of my best girlfriends "Amber" whose serving in the United States Air Force.

  • Mollie says:

It seems so insufficient but a simple thank you. What they've given up, what they've sacraficed is great and thank you doesn't even seem to cover it.

    • Mama Kitty says:

Victoria: Thank you – and you're right. Our Vets aren't honored nearly enough.

Bells: thanks for dropping by, PIC! And we (veterans) love you too!

Tyhada: Many thanks, and a special thanks to Amber for serving.

Mollie: That brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • Thank you for my freedom.

Simple and to the point. They do their job so we can be who and what we want – they are courage personified.

I call my dad every Vets day and tell him Thanks.

  • Linda Henderson says:

    THANK YOU!!

    Kelly

I want to say thanks to all the Veterans for keeping out country free and safe. Only because of those currently serving and those who have served in the past can we say we are free.
