24 hour readathon final check in

I’m several hours past the end time, but I’m just now able to post. I’ve been sick this past week, battling an upper respiratory and a sinus infection. Even though I took my entire course of medication, I feel no better. In fact, I’ve been stuck in bed since yesterday evening. Still, even with that I kept listening to my books.

I finished Darkfever last night and immediately began Bloodfever, although I didn’t get the chance to finish it. I ended up passing out around 11:00 or so and waking up at 7:00. I immediately plugged in my earbud and began “reading” again.

As of 9:30, my start and finish time, I’d only gotten through the first of the Fever series and about an hour or so into the second. Definitely not the five books I’d planned on, and I imagine if I’d been reading print books rather than listening to them (and the time and energy to read) I would’ve finished them all. Next year, I’ll make sure to plan better (as in: sending my husband to his best friend’s and sending my daughter to my mother’s).

Even though the 24 hour read-a-thon is over, I’m still listening to my audiobooks. Even though I don’t see what everyone sees in Barrons (I saw something in him for about 1/2 a second and then he showed his ass again), I’m pretty hooked on the books so far. I’m 7 hours and 25 minutes into the 9 hour book and fighting the nap that my body seems to desperately need so I can see if Mac gets her stupid naive ass out of the predicament she’s currently in.

Final mini-challenge:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you? Probably the hour I spent with my mother-in-law trying to talk to her while pay attention to the book as well. I ended up having to pause the book. What? She’s family.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? The Fever series is pretty freaking high-interest, but it’s better to read them in print or on eReader than try to listen. I can read 3 or 4 books in 9 hours versus listening to one in the same amount of time.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? (I’m keeping Marq’s answer here because it’s spot-on) Allow more time for the mini-challenges and not make the challenges so difficult. We only have so much brain power after reading for some many hours.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? Everything
5. How many books did you read? I listened to one and a half audiobooks.
6. What were the names of the books you read? Darkfever and Bloodfever by Karen Marie Moning.
7. Which book did you enjoy most? Haven’t finished Bloodfever yet, so I’ll have to say Darkfever.
8. Which did you enjoy least? I haven’t finished Bloodfever yet, so I can’t choose a favorite yet.
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? n/a
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Pretty likely.
11. What role would you be likely to take next time? Reader. I’m shite as a cheerleader.

Book(s) read since last update: Finished the first, started the second.
Number of books read since I started: 1.75
Pages read since last update: n/a
Total pages read: n/a
Readathon participants visited: 0
Mini-challenges completed: Um… 3 or 4? I can’t remember.

I am a filthy-mouthed 29-year-old full time mommy/wife/student, bookaholic, Twitter addict, & self-described tomboy-princess. I am never without at least one book (I usually have two... sometimes more), and I will be happy to tell you ALL about whichever book(s) I happen to be reading at the moment. :)
