Hello, my name is Mama Kitty, and I am a book addict.
I am what you would call a “reader” (which is really just a nicer way to say “book-worm”. I primarily stick to romance (and most of the sub-genres contained within the broad spectrum that is “romance”), but occasionally I’ll venture out into a nice mystery, thriller, or drama.
I taught myself to read when I was 3. Yes, you read that right: 3. My twin brother had cancer and was laid up in the hospital for an entire year. He liked it when people read to him, but sometimes Mom was tired and the nurses were busy. So I crawled into my uncle’s lap and demanded he read The Cat in the Hat over and over until I learned the words by heart. Somehow, I managed to connect the words he read to the words on the page, and voila! I was able to read books to Twin (who is now fully recovered, totally cancer-free, and just finished serving 7 years in the US Army as a medic).
That was just the beginning of my love of books. Around 9 (ish), I started reading Romance novels. I *ahem* borrowed a few from my grandmother’s collection just to see why she always had her nose stuck in them and found out that these were my kind of books! My mom just rolled her eyes and kept reading her mystery novels (she’s big on figuring out whodunnit before the book’s end) and left me to my obsession.
My bookshelves now have zero blank space to them, and they’re double stacked, 2 deep (at last count, it totaled up to 245 books, but I’m pretty sure I have a few still packed away after my move last year). Luckily, I discovered the art that is the eBook. I currently have more than 1,600 titles in my e-collection and have a tendency to add more to it every day (literally). From the 15th of February until the 15th of March in 2011, I spent over $560 just on books (all I can say is Thank GOD for tax returns)… So when I say that I’m a Hopeless Book Addict, I really mean it.
Some of my favorite authors (there’s no way I could name them all!) include:
- Megan Hart
- Nora Roberts/JD Robb
- JA Saare
- Tibby Armstrong
- James Patterson
- Maya Banks
- Emily Giffin
- Sophie Kinsella
- John Grisham
- Sue Grafton
- Jude Deveraux
- Janet Evanovich
- Stephenie Meyer
- Victoria Dahl
Ok, I should stop now. Really, it goes on forever and ever (amen).
