book: before I go to sleep
Review: Before I go to Sleep – SJ Watson
“As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me. . . .”
Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love—all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story.
Welcome to Christine’s life.

I got this book through the Amazon Vine program, and the blurb looked really good. Unfortunately, the plot moved so slowly that I fell asleep every time I tried to read it. I somehow managed to connect with the heroine, Christine, about 3/4 of the way through the book and really only because I’m nosy and I needed to know what happened to her and why her “memories” weren’t reliable, and why she lost it to begin with. I figured out what was going on with Ben before the book was over, which kind of irritated me because once I figured it out, I really just wanted the book to be over. I don’t see this ever having a sequel, so the fact that the author left the book the way he did really irritated me. Yes, she’s safe, but does she have her memory (mostly) back? Will she wake up tomorrow and know what happened? Or was everything she went through for naught and she’s still stuck in that terrible black hole? Sorry, but I don’t like books with ambiguous endings like that. I either need an HEA or a finalized “everyone dies, the world sucks” kind of ending (which, to be fair, I don’t like either, but at least it provides CLOSURE!)
Overall – it was a hugely disappointing read. 2 out of 5.
