Review: Accidentally Catty by Dakota Cassidy

A purrr-fectly scintillating new novel from the national bestselling author of Accidentally Demonic

Katie Woods never thought she’d be forty-one, divorced, and thrust back into the dating world. To start fresh, Katie uproots her veterinary practice to upstate New York-not exactly the hottest dating scene on the planet. But when an unconscious cougar appears at her clinic, Katie’s newly single life gets a much needed jolt of the supernatural kind.

After Katie examines the cougar and leaves him caged overnight, she’s shocked to find a big strapping specimen of young, hot man in its place. And when the scratch she got during the exam results in some unnatural side effects, Katie has more to deal with then her animal attraction to a much younger guy-she has to figure how to stop herself from becoming a cougar of the four-legged variety.

“Is that what we’re calling what we just saw in that room? I don’t know about you, but I ain’t never seen a baby like that,” the sarcastic woman from her earlier phone call remarked.

Brushing aside Kaih, Katie ran her good thumb over her eye. The thumb that wasn’t . . . Oh, Hail Mary. She stopped herself mid-thought. Determination made her grit her teeth. Sort of. Her teeth and the ability to grit them were a work in progress. A glance upward, one that allowed her a panoramic view of each woman’s pores, gave her the chance to give them the once-over. “Who are these people, Ingrid?”

Ingrid backed away, still in a state of perpetual horrification. She situated herself behind one of the most beautiful, enhanced by nothing but soap and water, dark-haired women she’d ever seen. “They’re the OOPS people. The people you talked to on the phone. They’re here to help.”

I loved this book from the very start, as I have loved all of the “Accidentally” books by Dakota Cassidy.  From the first introduction of Nina, in this series, uber-vamp, she reminded me of myself many years back.  She says what is on her mind.  As for Dr. Katie Woods, she is a little bit me now-a-days.  Then we see Spanky/Beck/Shaw.  Yummy, with a side of British accent.  This book has everything I like and adore.  It has paranormal with a side of crazy, an extremely hot male center point and hot, steamy sex with a helping of foul language thanks to the ever likeable Nina.  Can you tell she is my favorite character?  I cannot wait until the next installment.  These girls kick paranormal butt and they do it in their own individual style.  I am not giving away the plot or ending.  This is one you HAVE to read yourself.  If you don’t, well, may Nina have mercy on you…  Pick it up and put it down once you are finished and drool until the next book is out.

Review: GOTU by Mike McNeff

When a drug cartel attacks a cop, the rules apply. When they attack a cop’s family, there are no rules. Sergeant Robin Marlette’s special narcotics squad has killed a dangerous drug courier and the brother of a prominent Mexican drug overlord. When Marlette’s daughter is kidnapped as an act of revenge, it’s a race against time to save her. Marlette and his team are very good at what they do-but are they good enough to defeat a drug cartel on its own turf? Written by a 40-year law enforcement veteran, GOTU puts you side by side with the law enforcement brotherhood as they battle the world’s most vicious criminals. GOTU will have you rooting for the good guys and turning the pages well into the night.

  • Paperback: 212 pages

Robin coordinated all aspects of the case and reviewed applications for the wiretap and the overall case report. Of course, since the Guardians were responsible for narcotics intelligence, Robin maintained those reports also.  Burke raised his hand. “That goes for you too, Sarge, right?” “If I need help, you’ll be the first to know.”

Sergeant Robin Marlette brings to life action in this superb thriller.  Robin Marlette is a supervisor in the Arizona Department of Public Safety Narcotics Special Enforcement Unit and he is also bad to the bone.  He kicks butt and takes names when he finds his daughter has been kidnapped out of revenge.  This was a slow read for me at the beginning, but once you get past the drugs bust this becomes an edge of your seat thrill ride.

Even though this is a work of fiction there is a reality to the family that is portrayed, you can relate to them.

If you are looking for a novel that is so real you could lose yourself in it, then pick this book up now and start your crime journey.  The book ends with the reader wanting more Robin Marlette and his unit.

Review: Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors by Molly Harper

WITH THIS RING, I THEE DEAD.

Just as Jane Jameson’s unlife seems to be stabilizing, fate sinks its fangs firmly into her butt. Despite her near-phobia of wedding planning, her no-frills nighttime nuptials to her sexy boyfriend, Gabriel, are coming along smoothly. That is, until she turns a fatally wounded teenage acquaintance, and the Council pronounces her responsible for the newborn vamp until he can control his thirst.

Jane’s kitchen barely holds enough Faux Type O to satiate the cute teen’s appetite and maintain Gabriel’s jealous streak at a slow simmer. As if keeping her hyperactive childe from sucking the blood out of the entire neighborhood isn’t enough to deal with, the persnickety ghost of Jane’s newly deceased grandma Ruthie has declared war on the fanged residents of River Oaks. Suddenly choosing monogrammed cocktail napkins and a cake she can’t even eat seem downright relaxing in comparison.

Tensions inside the house are growing…and outside, a sinister force is aiming a stake straight for the center of Gabriel’s heart. Most brides just have to worry about choosing the right dress, but Jane fears that at this rate, she’ll never make it down the aisle for the wedding all nice girls dream of…

“I just happen to have pulled out your ‘Exorcising Grandma Ruthie’ file while you were, er, indisposed,” he said, handing me the stack of papers I’d collected on exorcism rites. “You circled the ritual you thought would work best. I sent Dick out to collect a virgin goat.” “You are so the guy for me.” I sighed and stood on my tiptoes to kiss him thoroughly.

Even though I haven’t read the previous books in this series I was completely sucked in from page one.  Jane Jameson is an Austenian loving vampire and very likeable.  She has a romantic side but also a very realistic side that tends to get into trouble from time to time.

Being engaged to the vampire of your dreams has its drawbacks as she finds when her beau Gabriel is attacked.  She finds that she will do anything to find out who is after them.  Jane also runs into issues with newborn teenage vampire Jamie, her first turn.  Who knew that vampires had “dummy books”, Siring for the Stupid: A Beginner’s Guide to Raising Newborn Vampires.   Try planning a wedding with a meddlesome mother all the while raising a teenager, not so easy, even for a vampire.

The quick wit and humor get me every time.  This books is filled with disgruntled Grandma Ghosts and friendly family werewolves.  So if you are looking for a paranormal romance mixed with humor, this is the book for you.  I am looking forward to reading the previous books in this series.

Review: End of the World by S.A. Archer

The day Lugh, Champion of the Sidhe, has long fought for finally manifests; all Sidhe unified under one Court. No more Light versus Dark. No more wars. Brothers, one and all. But on the day that should be celebrated as their greatest triumph, treachery brings his world crashing down, literally. Now if he can’t find a way to stop it no fey will survive.

Hi again! MamaG back in da house!!!! OK, I really don’t talk that way. The book that I am reviewing is called End of the World by SA Archer. I tried several times to read this book but I couldn’t get through the first chapter. I am thinking it is because I had way too many other things going on in my life. Once I was finally able to read farther into the first chapter than just page one I really got into the story. This book is a short read and only took me about 2 hours to complete (considering I have two small children crawling on my back at any given moment in the day). The beginning is a bit confusing when the author is giving a quick background on several characters but if you can get past this then the story begins to flow. This book follows the main character Lugh who is part of the Sidhe, and the fall of the fey realm the Mounds. The battle between the Seelie and Unseelie seems quick and could have had a little more description for my taste. The book ends abruptly, but in a way that makes you want to grab the next in the series and keep reading. All in all I would give this book a thumbs up.

Hi there! MamaG here! This is my first book review, so here goes nothing, or everything. Let us start by telling you the name of the short story. Sinful by Kacey Hamell. While I am not a romance reader by far, I was probably the perfect person to review this story. Many people will read a romance just because it is a romance, not I. This one is fast paced and quick reading. It took me a while to actually finish it, only because so many things were going on at the time. Once you start you will be able to finish in an hour or so. There were a few mistakes as far as grammar but that was a sidebar to the lusty description of desire that this story contained. I enjoyed the evocative details that placed the main characters Sinclair Devlin (Sin) and Mikayla Gallan in the throes of passion. If you want a quick story to scratch your romance itch, this one will do it. It is a happy ending story with likeable characters. I would like to see more development between supporting characters Desmond Ritchie (Des) and Brianna Masters.
