Review: Ever After by Kim Harrison

The ever-after, the demonic realm that parallels our own, is shrinking, and if it disappears, so does all magic. It’s up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to fix the ever-after before the fragile balance between magic users and humans falls apart.

Of course, there’s also the small fact that Rachel is the one who caused the ley line to rip in the first place, and her life is forfeit unless she can fix it. Not to mention the most powerful demon in the ever-after—the soul-eater Ku’Sox Sha-Ku’ru—has vowed to destroy her, and has kidnapped her friend and her goddaughter as leverage. If Rachel doesn’t give herself up, they will die.

Forced by circumstance, Rachel teams up with elven tycoon Trent Kalamack—a partnership fraught with dangers of the heart as well as betrayal of the soul—to return to the ever-after and rescue those she loves. One world teeters on the brink of interspecies war, the other on the brink of its very demise—and it’s up to Rachel to keep them both from being destroyed.

You just don’t know how long I have been waiting for this book to come out! 11 months is a long time to wait for the awesomeness that is Ever After. Kim Harrison did not disappoint with the 11th book to The Hallows series. With only 2 books left in the series the excitement is building as to how things are going to end.

Will Trent and Rachel really have there HEA? Gosh I hope so. This book book left you with the feeling that it sure is possible. You can tell that they both have some some strong feelings for each other and that they are beginning to really trust one another and will have each others back at the cost of their own. Rachel is really guarded with her heart and it will be interesting to see how this will play out. If you think that their love will easy, think again. Nothing between them has ever been easy and this will play out till the very end of the series.

Rachel has grown so much so much in this series, it has been great watching her come to terms with the fact that she is not the white witch that she thought she was, but a true and rare day walking demon. She still has a very strong sense of right from wrong, but is willing to pay the cost when she feels it is necessary. Smut on her soul or not.

I was not very happy to see Nick back in the picture and up to no good as usual. I wish he would just die already! I knew from the beginning that he was a bad apple and he keeps proving me right time and time again. Maybe he is finally getting what he deserves at the end of this book, but I doubt it.

All in all this book was fabulous. This has to be my favorite series ever! I just love all the characters and my heart just breaks every time something happens to one of them. I would recommend this book to any who are already familiar with The Hallows series. If you are new to the series I would recommend starting from the beginning with Dead Witch Walking, it will not dissapoint.

I am very excited to say that I will be meeting Ms. Harrison on Tuesday at her book signing that I am attending. I reeally hope that I don’t go all fangirl on her and embarrass myself, but I just love this series so much. It makes me giddy just thinki9ng about it:)

This book gets a 5 of 5 because it was awesome and one that will be a re-read for sure.

Review: Malachi’s Word by Lissa Matthews

Drunken confessions. Sobering friendship. And two cowboys gambling on love…

The Bar Next Door, Book 1

Could he love me? Malachi has wanted to know the answer since his best friend, Daniel, confessed to being gay. He has never forgotten that long-ago conversation, or the secret hope that another confession would follow: that Daniel is in love with him.

Daniel is—and always has been—in love with Malachi. But how is he supposed to share that information without risking the only friendship that has ever mattered to him? He couldn’t handle it if he were kicked out of Malachi’s life. The best Daniel could do was move home to Texas, buy a little rundown ranch to work outside Austin, and visit the watering hole where Malachi tends bar.

Malachi knows that something heavy is riding his friend and he’s tired of watching Daniel’s downward spiral of too much beer and too many meaningless flings. Enough is enough.

Except, when he gets Daniel home and some strong coffee down his gullet, the truth comes pouring out. A truth that nearly knocks Malachi out of his boots.

Courage like that doesn’t come easy…and Malachi can only pray his answer is enough to turn lifelong friends into forever lovers.

Warning: This little tale tries to contain a gay bar, a lot of beer, a hot cowboy with a pitchfork, another one with a serious addiction to boots and coffee, and a secret yearning between the two for hot blooded, can’t wait to get naked, just leave your boots on sex. Oh, and there are doughnuts…

Malachi is the owner of a gay bar in Austin, Texas. Ever since he was a boy he knew he was in love with his best friend Daniel. Only Daniel doesn’t know it, and Malachi doesn’t want to ruin his relationship with his closest friend by revealing this information. Daniel is desperartely in love with Malachi, to the point that he has to drink himself into oblivion just to keep it to himself. Both men just can’t seem to see what is they feel for each other. Until Daniel spills the beans and thier lives are forever changed.

Again, Lissa Matthews delivers another great book. I fell in love with these cowboys right away. You could see from the start the feelings they had for each other. Of course since they are men, they are too stubborn to see this truth. These cowboys went off as young men to begin thier lives, but were both drawn back to thier hometown where they were again near each other. Neither one able to fully sever the feelings they had for the other.

This was a quick, enjoyable read. I only wish that I had a little more back story on these boys. To know how thier lives started out together with both of thier mothers dying and being raised by their fathers. Fathers that could not have been very happy to find out that they were gay and in love with each other. They have a very intersting story that I would like to know more about. All in all it was a great book, one that I would recommend to anyone who likes to read m/m.

I bought this book after a childhood friend of mine recommended that I read it.(The author is a friend of hers) So I decided I would give it a shot and help out a new author by writing a review.

Sweet Caroline……..you had me at that! What a great beginning to a new series. I found that I totally related to the characters, I fell in love with Cade the minute that Caroline ran into his naked body! (OMG and what a body he has!) Kristy and Caroline have a great BFF relationship, it’s awesome to know that someone will have your back no matter what. Trevor was annoying from the beginning, but you can tell how much he truly does care about Caroline, but is it really enough? Through the whole book my mind was trying to process what was going on and figurin gout how it all would fall into place. It had a great story line and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. It was a great read that I totally recommend you pick up for some good holiday reading;)

Rating is a 4 of 5

Review: The Prince by Tiffany Reisz

Two worlds of wealth and passion call to Nora Sutherlin and, whichever one
she chooses, it will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make. Unless
someone makes it for her…

Wes Railey is the object of Nora’s tamest yet most maddening fantasies, and
the one man she can’t forget. He’s young. He’s wonderful. He’s also thoroughbred
royalty and, reuniting with him in Kentucky, she’s in his world now. But
this infamous New York dominatrix is no simpering Southern belle, and Nora’s
dream of fitting into Wesley’s world is perpetually at odds with the
relentlessly seductive pull of Søren—her owner, her lover, the forever she
cannot have. At least, not completely.

Meanwhile Nora’s associate Kingsley Edge is only too happy to take her place
at Søren’s feet during her hiatus. Søren is the only man Kingsley has ever
loved, and their dark, shared history has forged a bond that neither the
years—nor Søren’s love for Nora—can break. But a new threat from an old
adversary is forcing Kingsley to confront the past, reminding him that he must
keep his friends close, and his enemies closer.

What an amazing ride that we got to go on in this new installment to the
Original Sinners series. Tiffany Reisz continues to keep us under her shiny high
heeled stilettos, while giving us exactly what we want! What a journey this book
was, it really showed you a side to Kingsley and Søren that has not yet been
revealed.  Nora and Wesley get to spend some very needed time together to figure
out where their relationship is heading. I am left with the feeling of MORE!!
Without giving this review any spoilers (which is killing me) I will just have
to say that this book is a must read. If you enjoyed the Original Sinners so far
or even if you haven’t been introduced yet, you need to grab this book. Tiffany
has a way of making all her readers a sub, and bowing at her feet for more!

(little red riding crop included)

I’m giving this book a 5 of 5

Review: Fragile by M. Leighton

Her heart, as delicate as glass.  His love, as strong as steel.  Can either survive life and death?

Hardy Bradford is an eighteen year old football phenomenon who has the girl, the school, the town and the future in the palm of his hand.  His life is all mapped out for him, right down to who he’ll marry and how he’ll become a professional football player.  It doesn’t seem to matter that Hardy would’ve chosen a much different life if it was up to him.  But it’s not.  At least not until his Miracle comes along.

The first time Hardy laid eyes on Miracle St. James, he didn’t know who she was, but he knew she was something different and that he’d never get her out of his head.  And he didn’t.  Now, months later, Hardy’s world is turned upside down when Miracle shows up in his class, stealing his heart and forever changing the course of his life.

Miracle’s sick.  Very sick.  And Hardy might be losing the only thing in his life that has ever mattered.  How much is too much to sacrifice for the one you love?  For just a little more time?  For just one more chance?  Can Hardy be the hero Miracle needs?  Or is it Hardy that needs saving?

Stuck! That is the word that comes to mind when I think about Hardy Bradford.
Stuck in a terrible relationship with an awful girl. Stuck in a career path that
he does not want. Stuck with a father who is making all of his life decisions
for him because he doesn’t want to go up against that abusive man. Just
STUCK!!!!

Then he meets Miracle St. James and somehow she is the one who will put his
whole life into perspective. She makes him see that he is a better person on the
inside and wants to be that person that she sees in him. How awesome is it that
that is her name. Because that is exactly what she is to Hardy. A Miracle

This book was such a relief to read. Their story was new and fresh. It went by
so quick I am already sad that it is over. I laughed and I even cried a little
during this book. It’s a fantastic story of love, strength and courage.

This is Ms. Leighton’s first Contemporary Romance. I have to say that she did an
awesome job! Because I loved this book , which should come to no surprise since
there is not an M. Leighton book that I have read and not totally loved!! If you
have never read a book by M. Leighton you should get one now! Like right now;)

I give this book a 5 out of 5

Review: Safeword: Matte

Matte, pronounced mah-tay, is the word used in some forms of martial arts to stop a fight. It’s the Japanese word for stop or wait. Sam (short for Samantha) has made a hobby out of learning the various fighting disciplines, but she also happens to be a sexual submissive. What better safeword than matte?

Sam wants to find someone to submit to who she can’t beat in a fight. She’s tried to make it work with men from the scene who know nothing about fighting, but it doesn’t feel real to her – she needs someone who can truly control her. However, after dating from the fight scene and discovering not all guys like to spank their girlfriends, she’s decided to just back away from the whole dating thing for a while… until Fate decides to step in.

Warning: This title contains graphic language, consensual BDSM, bondage, and use of toys including crops, clamps, canes, and floggers.

After having no luck finding the right guy that can meet her needs, Sam has given up on men. See she has a side to her that the men from her past cannot deal with. By day she is a tough aggressive divorce attorney and by night she wants pain and torture being a submissive in the kinky scene of BDSM. Did I mention that she is also a kick-ass martial artist? So she has a little trouble finding a guy who is tough enough to control her the way she needs to be controlled.

Until she meets Ethan at a cage fight and she is smitten by how strong and capable he is. She is totally into him but is not interested in getting into a ”vanilla” relationship with another man. She soon finds that he has the same interest as her and is more than willing to give her what she needs and then some. Handcuffs, floggers and canes…..OH MY!!

I loved this book!! It has a great story and the characters kept the book moving at a great pace. Before I knew it, it was over:( I wanted more!! More of everything. I can see reading more of Ms. Blevins books in my future.

Thursday Thirteen: My favorite quotes from Lover Reborn by JR Ward

Lover Reborn was an auto-buy for me. How could it not be? It’s book 10 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, one of my absolute favorite, and it tells the story of Tohrment, the once proud leader of the Brotherhood who is now a shadow of himself. I couldn’t put it down, glued to the pages from word one. As always, JR Ward had some of the most amazing lines and these are 13 of my favorite quotes.

1. “Our future has come.”

2. “Maybe all the chicky-chicky was just triggering my inner bitch for no good reason.”

3. “You know, I never thought there was an advantage to being blind. Or deaf. Or mute.”

4. “Text me when you want to see me again, he signed. I’m giving you your space, but know this: I will wait forever for you.

5. “And if that bastard’s innocent,” Rhage spoke up, “I’m the fucking Easter bunny.”
“Oh, good,” someone quipped. “I’m calling you Hop-along Hollywood from now on.”
“Beasty Bo Peep,” somebody else threw out.
“We could put you in a Cadbury ad and finally make some money—”
“People,” Rhage barked, “the point is that he is not innocent and I’m notthe Easter bunny—”
“Where’s your basket?”
“Can I play with your eggs?”
“Hop it out, big guy—”
“Will you guys fuck off ? Seriously!”

6. “And love … love was worth dying for.
Worth living for, too.”

7. “My name’s Lassiter, and I’ll tell you all you need to know about me. I’m an angel first and a sinner second, and I’m not here for long. I’ll never hurt you, but I’m prepared to make you pretty goddamn uncomfortable if I have to, to get my job done. I like sunsets and long walks on the beach, but my perfect female no longer exists. Oh, and my favorite hobby is annoying the shit out of people. Guess I’m just bred to want to get a rise out of folks—probably the whole resurrection thing.”

8. “You almost died tonight, he wanted to say. You dumb son of a bitch, you nearly died … and then what would we have done?

And not ‘we’ as in the Brotherhood.

Not even ‘we’ as in he and John.

More like … ‘me’.”

9. “From one king to another, know that I’m giving you the middle finger right now.” And he was, with a smile.”

10. “In the center was a tiny handprint in red paint.”

11. “Uh-huh, uh-huh, ohhhh, yeeeeeeeaaaah, who’s your daddy…”

12. “I am not worthy.” he said softly.

“Damn fucking straight,” someone growled.”

13. “Courtesy of their tempers, both were now dressed in the Captain Asshole costume—which included, for no extra charge, the cape of disgrace, the booties of shame, and keys to the Fuck Up mobile.”

And because this book was just THAT GOOD, you get more than 13 today.

14. His slut of a cousin, his cocksucking, suit-wearing, Montblanc-up-the-ass cousin Saxton the Magnificent, was standing next to the queen, looking like a combination of Cary Grant and some model in a goddamn cologne ad.
Not that Qhuinn was bitter.
Because the guy was sharing Blay’s bed.
Nah.
Nope. Not at all.
The Cocksucker-
With a wince, he thought maybe he should switch that insult to something a little farther away from what the two of them …
God, he couldn’t even go there. Not if he wanted to breathe.”

15. “When order in study was finally reestablished, Wrath looked downright nasty. “Next one of you mouthy assholes makes me pound my desk again, I’m throwing you the fuck out.” On that note, he reached down, picked up the cowering ninety-pounds retriever, and settled George in his lap. “You’re freaking out my dog and it’s pissing me off.”

16. “No one got forever. And it was a fucking crime to waste what you were given. “

Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment has been unrecognizable from the vampire leader he once was. Physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair, he has been brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel. Now, fighting once again with ruthless vengeance, he is unprepared to face a new kind of tragedy.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon

It’s that time again! Dewey’s 24 hour Read-a-Thon is April 21st! It’s a time to put a dent in that TBR pile (yeah, that’s possible) and get your read on for a straight 24 hours. I’m signing up again. It’s a good way to force myself to sit down and read, uninterrupted (ok, with my family, that’s not likely, but I’ll try anyway).

I’ve convinced MamaMoon to sign up with me. We’re going to go through our Kindles and bookshelves to see what we need to read (pretty much everything, lol). I know for sure that I need to read all three books in The Hunger Games trilogy (I promised I’d read them before I see the movie). We’ll see what else I put on the list. :)

To sign up, click here. You don’t have to have a blog to participate.

If you don’t want to read but still want to participate, you can sign up to be a cheerleader.
