What is in a name?

I am participating in a 30 day photo challenge and the other day the photo of the day was: Me.  Well, it was a work day and I forgot I was supposed to take a picture of myself until I was driving home.  By this point in the day, most of my makeup was gone and I’m sure my hair was pulled up into either a messy bun or a crooked pony tail.  So during my long commute home I was thinking about how this non-photogenic person was going to take a decent “selfie” to post when a remake of the song I was named after came on the iPod.  Problem solved – I took a picture of the song title and posted it.  Which got me thinking about names, I personally detest mine.  Not even my grandparents call me by that name, I won’t answer to it.  The original song has been sung to me so many times in oh so many off key renditions that just hearing the name can make my skin crawl.  In an effort to get people to forget about that one song, I have actually started collecting songs with my name in the title.  I have found four songs with the same title that are nothing like the dreaded song that my misguided parents heard that fateful day.  Consequently, I have found one remake I can tolerate because it is nothing like the original.  How do you feel about your name?  Were you named after someone?

MK’s bday bash: Twimom227 talks about new-to-you authors + GIVEAWAY

So here it is… My dear friend Mama Kitty’s BIG birthday and blog bash! Although, since I am just a wee bit older than she is, it kind of hurts to say that she’s “getting old” at only 30!

As party of MK’s big celebration, I thought I would talk about books, since we all share that common bond. Specifically, I want to talk about new-to-me authors.

We all have authors that are on our auto-buy list. Authors such as Nalini, Nora, Karen, Jill, Larissa, Gena, etc. are common names on those lists. But many of us, including myself, have a list of must-buys that maybe aren’t as common or well known to others. How is it that we find those authors that we come to love if they aren’t the “talked about” ones?

I’ve made it a personal challenge to read new-to-me authors. This is my second year of doing my own mini-reading challenge at my blog, That’s What I’m Talking About (www.twimom227.com). Last year I read over 20 new-to-me authors. Some are relatively big names like Shiloh Walker and Jennifer Estep, who had been on my TBR list for a while. While others like Rebecca Royce and DL Jackson, I picked up because their work captured my eye. I’ve also picked up new-to-me authors via gifted books and freebies from book conventions. It’s fun to try a new author, especially when you find one that becomes your next auto-buy author!

So in celebration of Mama Kitty’s birthday, I’m offering one (1) lucky commenter an e-copy (Nook or Kindle) of My Wicked Valentine by Ann Mayburn, a new-to-me author I read earlier this year. This is the first book in her Club Wicked series, a contemporary BSDM romance series. For more information, please see my review HERE.

In order to enter, please leave me a comment telling me what new-to-you author have you read in the past 3 months, or if you have a new-to-you author in your TBR pile. The winner will be selected at random. Open where not prohibited by law and you must be able to receive downloads from Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. Contest is open until 11:59pm CST May 31, 2013.

Happy Birthday, MamaK! Can’t wait to celebrate with you in Savannah this summer! *hugs and kisses*

Happy birthday to meeeee! Win money and a book!

Today is my 30th birthday. Some people might see that as the beginning of my downward descent on “the hill” of life, but with how old people are living these days, I think I’ve barely begun. Sure, my joints ache and I’m tired a lot, but I still don’t feel old. I hang out with my 21 year old friends just as easily as I do my 40+ year old friends.

They say that age is all in how you feel. Well, I’m 30 and I feel pretty good. I’m married to a wonderful man, I have the most beautiful and sweet little girl on the planet, I have a home that I love a car that runs, and the bills get paid every month. Yes, I hate school but I’m almost done. Once I graduate and get pass the registry, I’ll be able to work with patients and do something I really love to do. How many people can say that? Did I also mention that my debut novella is being released today?? HOW COOL IS THAT??

I’m blessed. And today is my birthday.

I’m currently in New Orleans partying it up with my husband and in-laws (it’s way more fun than it sounds, I promise you — they party harder than I ever did!) but in my absence, I wanted to leave you with a chance to win a pressie on my birthday. I’m offering up a $10 gift certificate to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or iTunes as well as the chance to win a copy of my debut novella (as Paige Prince) Second Chance at Love. Enter using the Rafflecopter below!

Happy release day to Tibby Armstrong!! (CONTEST)

Today is release day for my girl Tibby Armstrong!! Hard Target, the third book in the Covert Attractions series is out today! I loved the first two books in the series, Sheet Music and Undercover Lover, and I routinely bugged her while reading UL because there was just something about Simon that interested me. Now, you get to read about my favorite ex-CIA badass hottie along with me! Grab your copy today and join me in the Simon/Alexandra fanclub!

Blurb:

Hard TargetWomen in general have never been former CIA-hacker Simon Jakes’ specialty. For one, they usually don’t get his jokes. Or when they do, they don’t find them funny. And there’s his love affair with books. Reading at dinner? Out of the question on a date. Not to mention his idea of amusement: sparring on the Judo mat. Sure, it could lead to sex, but most women find bruises and sprained ankles a turnoff.

Then there’s his ex-girlfriend, FBI agent Alexandra Valentine. With a voice like “angel sanctioned sin” and a body to inspire a second Trojan conquest–of the latex variety–she should be Simon’s match made in heaven. If only she weren’t so busy repeatedly damning him to hell for a crime he didn’t commit. Five years ago. When she sent him to prison and turned his career to a pile of ash.

When Alex sashays back into his life with a job proposition Simon isn’t allowed to refuse, this time around he vows to keep his heart and his mission separate. Compared to negotiating the minefield of their relationship, the job should be simple. Take down a criminal organization run by billionaire John Downing and try not to get killed along the way. The problem is, with a woman as sexy as Alex by his side, it’s difficult to keep his mind on the mission and out of the bedroom.

At their darkest hour, each has a decision to make. To trust despite the fog of lies and deception being spun around them, or to fail because a second crack at love proved the hardest and most impenetrable target of all.

Want to win a copy of Hard Target? Enter below!

Web Hunt: Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux

If you know me at all, you know that I’m in love with Ty and Zane from Abigail Roux’s Cut & Run series. I seriously dropped everything (namely: sleep) to read Stars & Stripes when it came out… while I was at Authors After Dark in New Orleans last August. I know they’ve only got eyes for each other, but a girl can dream right? ;)

So, when Riptide emailed me to ask if I wanted to participate in the Web Hunt for the release of Touch & Geaux, I of course said YES. Why wouldn’t I? It’s Ty and Zane!!

What’s a Web Hunt? Well, a bunch of us Ty & Zane fans are posting our favorite quotes on our blogs (click the Web Hunt banner to find a list of participating blogs) and you have to collect them all. That’s the easy part. The hard part? Finding our favorite quotes! There are so many good ones that it’s nearly impossible to pick just one!! After going through all my highlighted notes on my Kindle, I finally found one. Well, I found about twenty, but I’m only allowed to post one. :)

 “I love you,” Ty said out of the blue, his voice almost sing-song.
Zane laughed. “You’re drunk.”
“I loved you before I was drunk.”

Join us as we celebrate the official release of Touch & Geaux with a Cut & Run series-themed web hunt! On April 8, 2013, some of your favorite book blogs will be joining the party by posting about the book and including one of their favorite quotes from any book in the Cut & Run series. Readers who collect each quote and submit their findings to marketing@riptidepublishing.com will be eligible to win one of two runner-up prizes and one grand prize, to be revealed soon.

Plus, mark your calendars for April 10, 12 p.m. EST,  when we will be hosting Riptide’s first ever live chat featuring Abi Roux! Click here to RSVP to this event via Google+.

Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run, #7) by Abigail Roux

After having their faces plastered across the news during a high-profile case, FBI Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have become more useful to the Bureau posing for photo ops than working undercover. Just as Zane is beginning to consider retirement a viable option, Ty receives a distress call from a friend, leading them to a city rife with echoes from the past.

New Orleans wears its history on its streets, and it’s the one place Ty’s face could get him killed. Surrounded by trouble as soon as they land, Ty and Zane are swiftly confronted with a past from which Ty can’t hide—one with a surprising connection to Zane’s.

As threats close in from all directions, both men must come to terms with the lives they’ve led and the lies they’ve told. They soon discover that not all their secrets are out yet, and nothing lasts forever.

 Click the picture of the book to buy!

 This title is #7 of the Cut & Run series.

#AADSAV Spotlight: April Fool’s Day at the BA Tortuga household (+GIVEAWAY!)

I was thinking hard about what to write about April Fool’s Day. I tried for funny; I tried for something that might fool y’all, maybe give you a laugh (I mean, seriously, you’re going to believe I’m a Yankee? Snort). Heck, I tried to come up with anything other than, “I don’t have a lot of patience for practical jokes”. I couldn’t even find a single April Fool’s scene in a book (I might have to challenge myself to do that…)

I’d be lying if I said I came up with a damned thing.

So, instead, I’ll talk about one of my favorite bullriders from when I first started stalking following the big show. I’ll change his name to protect the not-so-innocent. We’ll call him Miguel. Miguel was a super-duper practical joker. He would staple other riders’ jeans to the ceiling in the dressing room. He would put rubber snakes in their riding boots. He would put icy heat in their go-bags.

Miguel was a prankster from hell. It made him so much fun to watch, because you never knew when he would have a water gun or a can of snake popcorn to have a go at the clown.

Cowboys do shit like that all the time.

My daddy is a cowboy.

Come to think of it, y’all, this may be why I have little patience for April Fool’s jokes. Remind me to tell y’all about the pygmy mummy and the butcher knife someday. Or the calf in the bathtub. The green dye in the water. Fake scorpions in my boots.

Not today. It’s April Fool’s Day and that means the stories are too close to a horror novel instead of a romance for me. (Not so much Daddy. He thinks it’s hilarious.)

Anyway, Happy April Fool’s, y’all. Fitting that it falls on a Monday. Hey! There’s a prank right there, provided by the mysteries of our modern calendar.

 Thanks for having me, y’all. I have a $10 Torquere Press gift certificate to give away today and I’m so looking forward to seeing all y’all at Authors After Dark! — comment on this post with your best (or worst!) April Fool’s joke. Winner will be chosen 2 weeks from today.

BA Tortuga
Because sometimes fistfights are foreplay

About the BA Tortuga:

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds, getting tattooed, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing porn sites in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her partner, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but is feeling the Colorado mountains calling. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

Blog tour interview & GIVEAWAY with Bianca Sommerland!

A big thank you to Mama Kitty for having us here today! Today two of my amazing betas and super fan girls of the Dartmouth Cobras hockey team decided to sit down with the lucky ladies who managed to ‘score’ on the relationship front.

I’ll leave you to them before I come up with any more lame hockey puns! ;)

~~~~~~
1.)    Oriana – Your story started with you getting into a ménage to get your father’s attention. How much of that motivation do you hate or are you just happy that it led you to your guys?
Oriana: Oh, I’m thrilled it led me to my men, but . . . part of me wishes that I’d been strong enough to stand up to myself. I gave my father too much control over my life, but now the only control I surrender is to my men. And only when I choose to!
2.)   For all the girls (except Becky) – Did you ever think you would end up in the BDSM lifestyle and how has it affected your everyday life?
Silver: I always enjoyed playing a little kinky, but no, I never thought things would go to the next level. It’s different because I actually care what Dean and Landon think. I don’t just act anymore—okay, not as often—I try to consider them in what I do. Not to say that I’m always good because that would be boring. But I get punished a whole lot more now that I was as a kid! *g*
Jami: I’ve been curious for a long time because of all the stuff my dad didn’t know I saw and heard. ;) I didn’t think I was sub material though, so I didn’t think I’d get into the lifestyle. Exploring it with the right man though . . . it’s awesome. Sebastian helps me feel comfortable with my own needs. Luke keeps things from getting too serious.
Oriana: Absolutely not. I blame my sister for corrupting me with her dirty books! Lol! In all seriousness though, ‘Lady in Charge’ opened me up to the possibility of not only being in the lifestyle, but having a life. I was submissive in all the wrong ways, a doormat. Learning how to kneel to the men I love has given me the strength to stand up for myself. Which might sound weird, but they taught me that I’m worth something. I’m not sure I knew that before.
3.)   Becky – How weird is it to know that you and Landon play at the same club? Do you think you will avoid going on the same nights as him?
Becky: Weird? Just a little. Lol! He hasn’t been to the club in awhile, but yes, I’ll definitely avoid going the same nights as him. There are some things I’d rather never know about my little brother.
4.)   For Oriana and Silver – your ménage consists of no sexual interactions between your men. Do you ever see that changing? Do you secretly wish it would?
Oriana: Sloan and Max are more like brothers than anything, so even if they were interested in the same sex…no, I can’t see it. Dominik has that very straight vibe too. Do I wish it would? Honestly, I never thought about it.
Silver: Umm…I’ve thought about it. I mean, I lived with two gay men for a long time and I know how hot it can be. Dean and Landon are comfortable with each other, but…more like friends I think.
Oriana: Like Sloan and Max, right?
Silver: No. My men don’t act like brothers. Next question?
5.)   From Casey for all the girls – Since you ladies each have multiple guys, do you find that you are different with each of them? Do they each individually bring out different parts of your own personally, because they are so different?
Becky: I want to answer this one first! Lol! Zach and Scott—they’re almost complete opposites. Zach is so stable, so reliable, but there’s an edginess to him that makes me tingle all over whenever we do a scene. Scott’s becoming more reliable, but he’s such a wild card. He’s fun, unpredictable, loyal and so very strong. And I don’t mean just physically. Zach helps me let go of all my responsibilities just a little bit, I know I can rely on him, lean on him when I need to. Scott’s taught both Zach and me to loosen up and have more fun.
Silver: Hmm, I wouldn’t say I’m different with each of them—except when it comes to work. But even then, we tend to have little sit downs together to go over things concerning the team. Landon’s got good insight and he’s cool with just giving us his opinion and letting us make the decisions. Me and Dean, I mean. Dean thinks he gets the final say, but I just let him believe that to keep peace around the house! ;)
Jami: Ah . . . not really sure how to answer that. I guess, with Luke, I’m a bit more in the moment, but I have that with Sebastian too. We’ve all got really strong connections. Things are wonderful with each of them alone, but nothing compares to how right it feels when the three of us are together.
Oriana: Very different. We have special times together, but it’s important to all of us to have our alone time. I already had a strong friendship with Max and we have a lot in common. Sloan and I have been exploring different things together as well. Dominik has brought me so many different places, literally and symbolically. I love seeing how the men interact too. Max and Sloan have their ‘boy’s nights’ and when they come home they are so rowdy things are…let’s just say we have a lot of fun.
6.)   From Jennifer Z. for all the girls – What is the sexiest/most romantic thing each of your men does or has done for you that doesn’t involve sex?
Oriana: Max is amazing for travelling. Everywhere we go, he finds something sweet and romantic to do that’s unique to the area. Sloan’s not big on romance, but he has these times when he just gets this look in his eyes and then he’ll hold me and say ‘This moment is mine’.
Dominik is wonderful with spontaneous gestures that mean so much. Breakfast in bed with a small bouquet of white tulips the first morning after he gets back from a road trip. Just to show me how much he missed me.
Silver: Well, I’m not sure if this counts as sexy or romantic, but after I got pregnant the three of us started spending at least an hour together reading out loud from our favorite books—taking turns, you know? Landon said it would be good for the baby, but then he admitted he likes the sound of my voice. Dean told us both her loves having some time where there’s no work, no TV, nothing but us. I love listening to them, love just curling up between them and falling into the rhythm of the words and their voices.
Jami: There’s not much that Sebastian does that isn’t sexy or romantic. Have you heard the man speak? **happysigh** He whispers these Spanish phrases to me and I just melt. Luke . . . he doesn’t the most surprising little things that just brighten up my days. Like, I tend to lose my gloves a lot during the winter, so he started sneaking pairs into my car, my purse, the inner pocket of my coat, my lunch bag. Best of all, each one has these cute little notes. Some from him, some from Sebastian. I swear I’m the luckiest girl in the world.
Becky: At least twice a month, I get a nice, long bath. Doesn’t sound like much, but it takes both men and quite a bit of planning for them to set it up like they do. Zach had a huge whirlpool tub put into the bathroom. They set it up while I’m out with Casey on Sundays for mother/daughter time. They light a few dozen candles, set up small helpings of some of my favorite deserts on a tray, and have a bottle of my favorite wine chilled and waiting for me. One of them will take Casey out and the other one will wait for me to finish my bath so he can pamper me. No matter how often they’ve done it, every single time is special.
7.)   From Jennifer for Silver – Does she feel awkward answering any of the questions (related to sex or not) with Jami and Becky there, since it may be more than they would want to hear about their dad and brother? Or does she feel like she can’t share as much with the other girls because of that?
Silver: Not really. I haven’t shared anything they don’t already know. No gritty details . . . yet. ;) I’d have Jami block her ears, but Becky’s a big girl. She knows me and her brother—
Becky: Next question please!
8.)   For Oriana – Does it bug you that Sloan’s mark of commitment is not as visible as say Max’s ring? Do you want to eventually go public with your relationship with him?
Oriana: The mark Sloan put on me is just as special as the ring Max placed on my finger. Most know about our relationship already, but I try not to attract the media any more than necessary, For me and Sloan, though, there might be something more visible soon.
9.)   From Jennifer for Becky – What is the one thing that Scott and Zach do, together or separately, for/with Casey that melts your heart? And how would Casey describe Scott and Zach?
Becky: Honestly, every time they’re with her, my heart melts a little. Zach never misses breakfast with her when he’s not on the road. He sings to her almost every night and has been trying to learn her favorite French songs. Scott spends tons of time with her too and he’s full of energy. He’s just as likely as she is to be up early for Saturday morning cartoons. He wakes me and Zach up doing ‘The Claw’ for Casey—just like Jim Carey! Lol!
How would she describe them? That’s a good question. I think she’d tell you they’re her heroes. I know they’re mine. :)
10.)From Jennifer for Jami – With the new baby and Casey around, any plans on making Dean a grandpa soon?
Jami: OMG! You did not just bring that up in front of my mom!
Silver: I’m not old enough to be your mom. And you’re definitely not old enough to even think about having babies.
Jami: I didn’t say I was!
Silver: Good.
Jami: But me and the guys have talked about it. They’d make great daddies and I think Silver would be an amazing grandma.
Silver **grumbling**: I’m gonna have a chat with Chicklet about getting you a chastity belt.
Jami: She did get me one! **winks** My Master, naturally, has the key!
* * * *
Love those questions! Thank you to Jen and Rosie for putting this together!
A pace ahead of the play can send you back to the start. And put everything you’ve worked for at risk.
Single mother and submissive Rebecca Bower abandoned her career as a sports reporter to become a media consultant with her brother’s hockey team. A failed marriage to a selfish man makes her wary of getting involved with another. Unfortunately, chemistry is hard to deny, and all her hormones are dancing when she gets close to the Cobra’s sniper, Scott Demyan.
Zachary Pearce ‘came out’ to the world last season to shift attention away from a teammate. And his one night with Scott Demyan had been unsettling. There could be more there, if only Scott was a different person. Instead, a night of sensual BDSM play with Becky leaves him wanting more, but she thinks he’s gay and questions his interest. It’s been a long time since a woman has attracted him both as a man and a Dom, and he’ll do everything in his power to prove she’s the only one he needs. Or wants. His one time with Scott was a mistake.
Scott might have forgotten what happened in his childhood, but the effects linger, and he specializes in drunken one-night stands…until he meets Zach and Becky and sees what he’s missing. But neither one believes Scott can be faithful. Although he’s trying hard to clean up his act to avoid getting kicked off the team, they want more from him. He’s willing to make changes, but the most important one—putting their happiness before his own—means he’ll probably end up alone.
Warning: This e-book contains material not suitable for readers under 18. It also contains scenes that some may find objectionable, including BDSM, ménage sex, bondage, anal sex, sex toys, and one man erroneously labeled as vanilla. Author strongly advises care be taken when using ladders and gym equipment in ways other than originally intended. And sex on cruise ships whenever possible. The author advises that as well.
Excerpt:
Zach moved swiftly to straddle Scott’s waist, curving his hands under the weight bar for extra support as Scott jerked with surprise.
“What the fuck, man?” Scott gritted his teeth, pushing against the bar as Zach forced it down. His eyes narrowed. “Let me up.”
“No.” The corner of Zach’s lips edged up as Scott panted. He could already feel Scott’s dick hardening against his ass. Gaining the upper hand with Scott wasn’t easy, the man wasn’t submissive—still, he reacted to being overpowered. But it wasn’t his physical response that Zach wanted. “We need to talk.”
Beads of sweat formed on Scott’s temples. “You sure about that? Feels like you want something else. Get off me so I can get you off.”
“What did you do while I was gone?”
Scott let out a rough laugh. “You mean who did I do. Was I supposed to keep track of names and report back? Guess I forgot. Can’t even give you a number. Too many to count.”
“Jesus, Scott.” Zach’s throat tightened. He knew Scott wasn’t bluffing. Not that he’d really expected Scott to wait for him to come back; they weren’t in any kind of relationship, but it made him feel a little sick to know Scott still let men and women use him as if he was good for nothing but a quick fuck. “You can’t keep doing this. One day—”
“What? I’m gonna catch something?” Scott’s whole body shook as he tried again to lift the bar. “You know I’m careful.”
“It fucks with your head.” Zach eased the weight bar onto the stand over Scott’s head. “Don’t forget, you were in my bed when you woke up screaming.”
“Give it a break. I had a fucking nightmare.” Scott groaned as he tried to sit up, and
Zach shoved him back down. “Look, I appreciate you letting me stay here since my place has been taken over by Vanek’s woman, but tone it down, okay? I didn’t get away from a Domme just to deal with a Dom. You need to play that way, go to the club. You want uncomplicated sex? I’m all over that.”
Clearly. Zach wrapped his hands around Scott’s wrists, jerking them over his head to pin him down. “Is that what you want with Becky?”
Baring his teeth, Scott thrust his hips up to grind his dick against Zach’s ass. “Yes.”
Not fucking happening. The way Becky had reacted when Zach had slipped into command mode had all his protective instincts on overdrive. In her vulnerable state, Scott could do a lot of damage if he wasn’t careful. And in his current mind-set, he wouldn’t be. “She needs more.”
“Then give it to her.” Scott rolled his eyes. “You’re fucking jealous, aren’t you? It’s obvious she wants me, but I’m no good for her.”
“No, you’re not. Not like this.” Zach pushed away from Scott, threw his leg over the bench, then straightened. “Why would I be jealous? You’ve got absolutely nothing to offer.”
“Nothing?” Scott sat up, grabbing his erection through his shorts. “I’ve got plenty to offer, pal.”
“You keep telling yourself that.”
As Zach reached the doorway, he heard rapid steps behind him and turned just as Scott’s body slammed into his. His eyes drifted shut as Scott pressed against him, lips hovering close as he whispered, “You want me.”
Curving his hand around the back of Scott’s neck, Zach hissed through his teeth. “Yes.”
“Then what’s the problem?” Scott undid the top button of Zach’s jeans, tugged down his zipper, then reached down to grab his dick. His lips were feverishly hot as he kissed Zach. “I’m right here.”
Author Bio
Tell you about me? Hmm, well there’s not much to say. I love hockey and cars and my kids…not in that order of course! Lol! When I’m not writing—which isn’t often—I’m usually watching a game or a car show while working on promo. Going out with my kids is my only down time. I get to clear my head and forget everything.
As for when and why I first started writing, I guess I thought I’d get extra cookies if I was quiet for awhile—that’s how young I was. I used to bring my grandmother barely legible pages filled with tales of evil unicorns. She told me then that I would be a famous author.
I hope one day to prove her right.
